This is one of the Canon models that has a problem with the LCD screen cracking for no apparent reason. Canon attributes it to owner abuse and won't honor the warranty. Read the digital camera forums before purchasing, or you may regret it at ANY price.

I don't know what you are talking about #2 because most of those LCD cracking are infact cause by OWNER ABUSE. The bigger the LCD the easier it is to get damage and with lots of Cannon sdXXX owners the damage rate cause by Owner will be more noticeable than other brands.
It is not for no apparent reason, it's pretty much 100% cause by force ( fast or slow) impacted on the LCD of the Camera. Any force impacted on the any part of the Camera will spread the force throught out the Camera with the LCD being the weakest.
If you drop the camera you might crack your lcd even if you drop it on opposite cornner of the LCD because the froce of the impact will travel through out your camera.
You can still damage your Camera even if it's in your pocket,, it could be the other items that in your pocket, of you bumpping that part of your body on to something.
Just becareful and you should be fine.

also
my friends and I most have the Cannon SD series and non of us have crack LCDs. mostly SD200 and SD300 and 1 sd400. And it's not like we don't use them either,, we bring them around all the time , in drnking parties that you wake up next to a toilet, all kinds of events, and in lots of places that we shouldn't like near water, lake, etc.
Pretty much the whole reason on getting a small camera is so you can bring it with you and not miss any memorable scenes. and These Cannon are doing the job just fine.
I don't know maybe because we know how to take care of our cameras.

I've had this camera since it was first released. I have never had a problem with the LCD at all. I DO however keep it in a Canon-made leather case when I'm not using it. I do suspenct that most of the LCD issues are from people that have no way of protecting it (like a case). At $204, this is one helluva deal. With the money you save go to ebay & get an oem case & you wont have any issues.

"...most of those LCD cracking are infact cause by OWNER ABUSE."
#4, then you should have no problem with people reading the digital camera forums where owners recount their experiences with the cracking LCD's.
