The automatic 10% off doesn't apply. I do have a $30 off from the back of my catalog that does apply.
This deal isn't rich enough for me but if someone wants to save an additional $30 you can paypal me $10.
If you're interested let me know.

I just priced out the exact same 8600 I bought with last weeks special and it $5 cheaper then. The only thing that is better with this offer is that it is an instant rebate and you don't have to mess with mailing in the rebate like last special.
FYI the 5160, like the 5150 has had some heat related issues.

Gimmie $10 and you get $30 coupon, one time use, came off my october dell catalog...

#32 I believe 700m has a smaller screen (wide screen just like the 8600 though) and much is much lighter.
Everyone who is confused with specs: Hover on "Notebooks" in the top menu and choose "Compare"
I'm just curious. Will there be hotter deals??

Pretty good deal. Just got myself a 8600. Though Dell kinda changed the price compared to last night's (for example, it came with the 1.50A GHz 15.4 WSXGA+ for no additional charge last night.. now it's +$45 for it). $45 here and some $35 there, they eventually added another $200 or so to the estimated price I had from last night. Blah.. it still saved me some $300, that's why I still went with it.

I played Doom3 on a similar laptop IBM 1.6M 1GB VC64M with 800x600 medium quality and it played well. for doom 3 though you need at least 1GB of ram the game uses around 700-900MB of memory

you need to wait...just be patient...if you just got the acknowledgement email and the confirmation email, you need to wait an hour or so to give them time to update their computers. Keep in mind, they are probably bogged down with orders right now.

it is not a bad deal. I orered one. Actually, without this deal, there were many other specials in place that got the price to about $1325, plus free ship. Same config now is $1150 (shipping is not free with this q-pon). You may also want to check out refurbished and more heavily loaded eMachines at tigerdirect.com for about $1100 (2.8 meg/ 60 hd/ 6-in-1, firewire, dvd, etc) -- no taxes in most states and $28 shipping.

Ordered a 8100 (sans parallel, serial, IrDa ports and all--damn you Dell) about an hour ago. Maybe I'll get lucky and actually have the ports on my system. Good luck everybody.

I got my confirmation. But in the acknowledgment it says that
"Save $49 on shipping with mail-in rebate. Price shown before rebate"
Does that mean there is a rebate for shipping somewhere?

#81, Difference between WUXGA and WXGA is same as between UXGA and XGA. The 'U' stands for Ultra. You get a higher resolution and hence a better screen quality.

I am debaing on the 700m, if I get the bigger battery (easiest way to get above the price limit)... anybody actually test these things out as far as how well they work when playing DVD's etc? I want something I cna travel with and battery life is important and it seems the "travel" one would be best.

#79, there is a $49 rebate for shipping, so you only have to pay tax.
#82, this offer is not combinable with other offers, so you lose th 10% off deal.
#89, yup, get in before dell pulls the plug early like last time.

Expect the *NORMAL* price on laptops to take a DEEP DEEP dive in mid-to-early november due to component prices being slashed due to a new manufacturing process and the price of materials. I will honestly and positively say that a "super powerful" CentrinoX2 processor pc (equiv to the P4 HT _Extreme Edition CPU in speeds up to 4Ghz will be only around 800-900 as it stands for Christmas. Welcome to the point where laptops are no longer as expensive as desktops and quite honestly will soon be the other way around. Dell is taking advantage of the 'old' pricing stucture. They are making 300+ on each one of these even WITH the deep discount.
If you have a laptop you have been wanting to sell, maybe an older PIII etc, SELL IT NOW or it will soon be worth pocket change.

#93,
21 days from the day the unit is shipped from the
factory. I justed called to confirmed.
I
purchased the 9100 the last time around but this thing
is quite HUGE! I might actually buy the 8600 and
return the 9100. the difference will be the 1.6A Ghz
P4 Mobile vs the 3.0 Ghz P4 HT, the ATI 9600 Pro Turbo
vs the ATI 9700 Pro and about 4.5 hours vs 1.5 hours
of battery life. Pricing will be about the same.
