As far as I know, Serial or USB depend on your PDA. This is just a piece of hardware with GPS enable.

how does this work w/ a PDA?? Does it use a CF slot or a SD/IO slot? PDAs dont have serial or usb slots. There isnt any info on the MS site either...

The GPS device does not work with your Pocket PC. The device plugs into your laptop. Maps can be exported to your Pocket PC, but there is no GPS functionality for the handheld.

Yes, it will give you turn-by-turn directions.
I don't know if it it will do realtime adjustment tho in case you got lost and had to circle around.

    #7 - No - nothing like that.

The program will read the GPS data and put a car icon on the map at the GPS position (and optionally automatically pan the map to keep the icon roughly centered).

The MS program is really good though, and if the GPS device works this is a pretty good deal.

Microsoft also has a $10 rebate (printable from http://www.microsoft.com/PRODUCTS/info/popup.aspx?view=22&type=rebate&content=083d29c0-7e8f-4fab-b330-6665ab6507db) that's good until the end of the year.

If you need both laptop and PDA compatibility, try this:

    http://www.delorme.com/bluelogger/

Quite a bit more expensive than this Microsoft unit, but still substantially cheaper than buying two separate GPS devices. It comes with much better software too, and is cordless to boot.

If you need laptop & PocketPC support, check out http://www.deluoelectronics.com

You can find a review here: http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/PocketPC/Routis.htm

The Routis software includes both Windows & PPC versions. They have a variety of GPS units & bundles as well.

My delorme unit (still considering the Bluetooth Earthmate PowerPack) can get signals indoors!!

Not that it matters, unless its late Saturday or Sunday morning, I usually know where I'm at?!? (Like I could operate anything at that point.)

Here's a link to the Bluetooth Earthmate PowerPack:

(WORKS IN BOTH BLUETOOTH AND NON-BLUETOOTH MODES)

You can also use the Bluetooth Earthmate PowerPack with a handheld cable in non-Bluetooth mode. This is a good option if you think you will buy a Bluetooth removable card or device in the future but want to use immediately with your current non-Bluetooth device.

    #12 -

Well, to buy a bluetooth GPS + Routis from Deluo you'd be looking at $220. Even for a wired GPS (cables running from your PDA, yeech) you'd have to pay $165-180.

Plus, the Deluo bluetooth doesn't support position logging, so you'd need to leave your laptop/handheld on ALL the time if you want to record a journey, and the Routis software doesn't support PalmOS - so Palm owners are screwed.

Is there something I'm missing, or is the Delorme Blue Logger bundle just plain better?
