They need to stop adding fluff to electronics just because they can. Save the effort for a better product.

Will I see my bacon with this thing?
Honestly, can I hook this up to my cable instead of the box that the cable gives?

It has built-in games and answers the phones too? W T F! All I want it to do is HD, what's all this extra crap!?!?!
On-screen caller ID with 20-call history display (caller ID requires additional service through your local phone company)
Built-in games including Egg in Egg, Bug's Opera, Battle Sea and Ting Tong

If you want one of these, be sure to call DirecTV's customer retention department before you buy. Tell them you want to get HDTV with them but the cost of their equipment is just too high. Mention that Voom will install their stuff for free and have a low per-month cost. Tell them the cable company only charges $X per month for their HDTV box (in my case $5). Ask what they can do to help you out.
If you get the right person, they will likely offer you around a $200 credit on your account if you buy and activate an HD receiver. It can be one like this, or even better the new HDTivo.
In the end, the final cost on one of these should be around $100 - and around $750 for the HDTivo (if you pay full price).
