Discover sucks but, make one purchase, then you get you Amazon gift cert and then cancel.

Can you cancel right after you get the gift card?
#4   tc17 - Posted 4:14 pm PDT 10/10/08 (32 Posts)
Sounds like you need to "activate" the card before you get the gift certificate. And it says activating it requires a purchase first before you get the gift certificate. Still not bad.

The site looks a bit sketchy though. It's not a discover site, but a 3rd party one instead... Hmmmmm.

hmm... tempting but i had very unpleasant experience with Discover card customer rep... it took me so many phone calls and hassles to cancel the card...but $125 gift card is still very tempting...

yeah, not really a fan of Discover.

I got the Discover Card about 2 months ago and activated it. At that time the reward was a 500gb USB external drive. I still haven't received the hard drive yet and the value has dropped to about $80. I finally received notice that the HD is being shipped from Amazon.

I rather get the $125 gift from Amazon now if I had a choice.

I got my Ipod deal back then, I would've like this deal better or the GPS unit:

Your Discover Card has been activated and your 4GB Apple iPod Nano was shipped on 09/12/2008. Your package will be shipped by Amazon, via USPS under the company name Credit Offers Network.

Oh, it took 3 weeks max for me from filling the form to getting the ipod.

how well does this work?
#15   OO7Slice - Posted 6:29 am PDT 10/11/08 (112 Posts)
It works. Plain and simple. You sign up, they send you the card, you activate it and make a purchase, they send you the reward. I did one for an ipod, same deal, made a $6 purchase, the ipod came about 3 weeks later.

#3 - Yes, you can cancel at any time.

$125 is tempting but giving information to 3rd parties is risky though.

I got in on a similar deal where they were offering a portable DVD player. I received a notice a couple weeks ago that the DVD player was out of stock, but they were going to give me a $180 GC to Amazon instead! Burned that already Smile

discover card sucks, they screw up your credit rating

Your credit score will be lowered with too many credit cards. Cool

If you think your credit is too good for today's credit-crunching economy, go ahead and face the reality when you really need a loan. Evil or Very Mad

BBB is right, three years ago I applied for a loan and they told me I applied for too many cards to get the best interest rate. Watch out in todays market.
