As an ex-SunRocket customer, when SR went kaput 3 months into my service contract, I would not recommend any contractual deals like this ..

OK. With logic like that, do not buy a Toyota because I had a Ford and it broke down.
Sun Rocket sucked. If you do a little research into ViaTalk, you will find that it is a solid company. I have been with them for about 1.5 years and I know people who have been with them for even longer. They have a good product and their customer service people are very knowledgeable.

#4, did you score 100% in Miller Analogies test?

Toyota/Ford are material objects which will be with you, even if they fail you can get them fixed any where. VOIP is a service and you are completely dependent on the service provider if they collapse what is left with you?

Another thing is Toyota has established the reputation for reliability of it's "products" over a long period of time. If you had tried to make an analogy about the "quality of service" then you wouldn't have looked so retarded but still your analogy would be stupid. IDIOT.

Why not just get skype and a wifi phone for somewhere around 8 bucks a month?
#7   9394 - Posted 12:44 am PDT 10/12/08 (39 Posts)
Why not just get magicjack for 40 bucks first year, 20 bucks there after?

#5 you're an idiot. If you knew anything about cars you'd know that Toyota quality is slipping. 2006-07 V6 Camry's had horrendous transmission problems that Toyota never owned up to, and earlier models were reliable but have sloppy handling and ride like mid-80s Buicks. You probably don't know this though because you probably are a poor who never owned anyhing nicer than a '91 Tempo.

#5, you can't be serious. If you are, please take this piece of advice and stop embarrassing yourself.

Let's see, with Viatalk you have a VOIP service that comes out to roughly $8.30/month. You've got your standard telco companies that, even with deals, average about $50 with all the taxes/fees that are attached. With this Viatalk service, you have about 30 options that you don't get with traditional phone services, even those from the cable companies.

For example, call forwarding, simultaneous ring (you can have your cell phone(s) ring when any incoming call comes in and whichever phone gets it first, the call is directed there), anonymous call blocking, SIP phone access (you take your number anywhere you can get a broadband connection), voicemail-to-email, call forwarding on outage, free second line, Do Not Disturb, call routing where you can direct certain phone numbers calling to voicemail, or block them outright, call privacy, whitelists to permit particular callers through even when you have DND or other call routing set, etc., etc.

So, this $199 for 24 months comes out to about 4 months of traditional telco long distance service. Magicjack requires a computer to be on to get the calls, as I understand it.

SunRocket failed primarily because it relied on venture capital to fund its ongoing operations. When the VC dried up, they went broke. Viatalk doesn't use that business model, and has ancillary businesses such as web site hosting, as well.

So, it's all risk and reward. Hardly any risk, and a ton of features for $8.30 per month.

What are you left with if it goes under? The hardware you have, as in your actual phones. Plus, the choice to then go with any other phone service provider by simply having either your number ported or get a new one.

This one's a no-brainer.

Let's see, service from a company that I've never heard of, over a dataline provided by yet another company using equipment that's gonna be outdated before the commitment is up...

Or service from a publicly-supported monopoly with equipment using ages-old standards that you can get for peanuts at a garage sale.

Considering how unreliable my cable modem is, I think I'm gonna stick with Ma Bell.

but viatalk does not work. I use tmobile at home and it just works great. no problems. And its only $10 and good customer service too.

Tmobile's home prices are good, but you need cellphone pkg. first, so I'm told. Better cellphone pkgs. out there, than what tmobile offers, costwise.

$199 avgs. out to about 4-5 months, compared to avg. home phone rates and usage. I've had enough of comcast, they're customer service is HORRENDOUS, so I may give this a try. Or, several friends recommend ATT Uverse. To each his own...

#11- Viatalk doesn't work? Wow, I guess I've been hallucinating this phone service I've had for the past 18 months. Come on, dude. That's just a dopey thing to say.

#10- I'm trying to make sense of your argument. The equipment you talk about at a garage sale is the same equipment you would use on Viatalk. They call them "phones". Not exactly a new concept. So, yeah, get them cheap at a garage sale, and your Viatalk service becomes even more valuable.

Equipment that will be outdated in two years? Again, that doesn't make sense. What, a cable modem? Do yo think your public monopoly owns all of the infrastructure all over the country that your phone calls traverse? I've got news for ya: they don't.

As far as your cable modem goes, hey, that's your problem. It's not a problem with VOIP. Any cable company I've ever had will swap out a modem with no questions asked. Additionally, Viatalk's incoming service doesn't depend upon your cable modem working at all. If you wanted, you could direct ALL of your incoming service to your cell phone. I've done that when on vacation. Takes two minutes to set up.

Again, your call. Most people have cell phones, anyway, so it's not like you wouldn't have an alternative if your cable service failed. And with the ability to route all incoming calls to your cell phone (or voicemail), what exactly would you be missing? Me? I'll take the $8.30/month and take my chances.

I agree with #7.
I don't have a home phone but if/when I get one...the service will be through magicjack. Computer has to be on - yes. But I have my computer on all the time. You need internet access with all voip services, so that is a moot point, and I pay for the internet and use the internet with a computer (that is on).
Now to costs - 200 bucks for 2 years (contract) vs. 60 for 2 years (no contract)

No brainer

#8, you're a tard. I was talking about "analogy" not about the quality of Toyota cars. BTW I own a sexy Acura TL not any low class toyotas or hondas.

I don't know anything about ViaTalk, but I have been won over by voip lately. I have been using Vonage, which I guess is more expensive, but it works great, at least in mine and my family's cases. I've had it for 3 months now, and Vonage has worked absolutely flawlessly. It also works with my county's enhanced E911 service. I'd recommend it very highly to anyone. If ViaTalk works as well as Vonage, this is a good deal.

I've had ViaTalk since June 2006. I signed up for another two years this past June. It does the job. I love the custom call forwarding. Somebody calling and annoying you repeatedly? Forward their number back to themselves (so they get their own voicemail), or Pizza Hut, or phone sex, whatever.

If your primary concern is cost, then MagicJack ($40 for first year, $20/yr after) is your best bang for the buck. The problem I have with it is that it only works with a USB dongle, and you have to run Windows 2000 or higher. Not only is this a software-only solution, but you also have to deal with instability of any Windows OS or other software drivers, as well as the reliability of the PC hardware you install it on. Too much risk if you need rock-solid liability.

ViaTalk and other VOIP providers will provide you with a standard hardware device which are much more reliable. At $8.29/mo ViaTalk the best blend of value and reliability at this time. I'm currently on Vonage, I will be switching over to ViaTalk at the end of the year.
